Access Palisades Interstate Park
is
a climbing community project dedicated solely to an effort to reform the currently highly restrictive access issues
regarding Rock Climbing on the Palisades in the Palisades Interstate Park.
Currently, technical rock climbing is not
a permitted activity at one of the most convenient, largest and most significant climbing resources in the New York City and New Jersey
Metropolitan Area .
We plan to achieve a change in the Palisades Interstate Park's current policy as many
local organizations
and individuals would benefit from the increased recreational and training opportunities.
The environment would receive
a significant benefit by reducing the travel time required to reach a world class climbing area and through utilization of
the public transportation system that currently services the site rather than the private transportation necessary to reach
the climbing destinations currently available.
A blog
detailing our activities has been created at
https://accesspip.tripod.com/blog
to provide the climbing community, media and the public with information regarding the effort and to
facilitate feedback from
all interested parties.
We
believe that Traditional Clean Climbing on the
Palisades would be an excellent use of the park's
resources and be in keeping with the Park's founding
intention of providing increased access and
recreational opportunity to the public.
